I went with the missionaries to teach a cute Chinese couple. As the husband shared his expectations of getting an answer or being able to change he said, "You see, we grew up not knowing all of this. There is so much that we have to sort out, it is a mess." He then talked about how he expected his answer to come he kept inferring that he would see an angel or something. The inspired missionary talked about how little by little they will feel of the Spirit and get answers.
I know this is how God also works in our lives. We might feel that a certain aspect of our lives "is a mess." I know changing habits is hard, and sometimes is a lifetime habit being changed like this investigator. But we must not give up, a chinese phrase says: 一天比一天好一点
This means: One step at a time, one day better than the day before.
Allow yourself to believe this! Allow yourself to rejoice in this! Alma also declares in Alma 37:6 "...behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise." The Lord wants us to have great things happen in our lives just as much as we do. The only difference is that we want it now, and He knows that it is through small things that this "mess" can be cleaned up. Just as the investigator should rejoice in the small manifestations of the Holy Ghost that allows them to know that God lives and loves them, so should we rejoice in any progress towards a better life!
Great things can happen! Great things will happen! Rejoice in the small victories!
